Traveling tips for staying fit

If you are traveling out of town and wondering how to stay fit while away from home, I have some tips for you.

The most obvious one is to use the gym at your hotel, if you are staying in a hotel and they have a gym, that is.  Otherwise, if you are staying somewhere like a friend or relative’s house or an Airbnb, you can find a gym in the area where you will be staying.  Most gyms have a day or weekly rate for visitors from out of town.  That day rate is usually around $20.

If going to a gym isn’t an option, consider exploring your destination by foot.  Sightseeing while walking or running is a great way to kill two birds with one stone, as they say.

If you want to do some strength training, but don’t have access to a gym, consider doing body weight exercises, like pushups, lunges and squats in your room.  You could also bring mini-bands with you for some resistance training.  Mini-bands are great because they provide a good resistance workout and don’t take up a lot of space in your suitcase.  Bringing a TRX is also a good option, as it has a door mount feature, provided you have space for it in your suitcase.

With a variety of options, going out of town is not an excuse for giving up on your exercise routine. You may have to alter what you normally do, but there are plenty of ways to keep up your level of fitness while you are away.
